After Prostate Surgery

prostate surgery?

my father is having prostate surgery tomorrow. I THINK it may be laser. He's had a problem for years where he can't urinate without the help of pills (not sure what they are called, but they are prescribed by his urologist). they don't seem to be helping anymore, so they are now going to do a surgery. does anybody know what this entails and what are the side affects. is it true that he may be able to work for about 1 month? any additional info would be greatly appreciated.. he is 65 years old. thank you.

  1. My father had prostate surgery. His side effects were little. the only thing that I would have to tell you is that you need to support him not and you can make him better in the future.
  2. It's not usually a disabling surgery, but it depends on the scope of the treatment. I'd encourage you to meet with your father and his surgeon so that the surgeon can explain everything. This is imporant, because a lot of research shows patients have better surgery outcomes if they understand exactly what is going to happen, and what their limitations will be post-operatively. They tend to have better results, and to recover quicker.
  3. If your father has a sex life he should ask the doctor to leave as much of the nerve endings as possible. This will allow him to obtain erections. Too often everything is taken and that's the end of that.
