After Prostate Surgery

Support breast cancer month yall, for sure I will . But when will guy's prostate cancer get the same love ?

First of all ladies if you have or know somebody that has breast cancer I wish they get better and/or hope somebody comes with a cure soon. There's no doubt I will support breast cancer by donating and such . BUUUUTTTT I have to ask since more guys are diagnosed with prostate cancer than women getting diagnosed with breast cancer and guy die more because of prostate cancer than women with breast cancer(looked it up).... where is the month to support prostate cancer ? The mile run to find cure for prostate cancer donation ? The prostate cancer ribbon ? Athletes wearing something that reps/support bringing a cure for prostate ? Commercials that ask for donation for prostate cancer ? My point is why isn't prostate cancer not getting the same support as breast cancer even though guys die more and are diagnosed more with prostate cancer, than women with breast cancer ? Can prostate get a month worth of support too?

  1. No, actually prostate cancer is diagnosed more but more women die of breast cancer than men die of prostate cancer.
  2. We need to start right now caring about prostate cancer as much as we care about breast cancer. My father has it. I do some volunteering at one of the American Cancer Society's Thrift Shops, so I will ask that question when I next go there. I like your big BUUUUTTTT
  3. I don't really see why we focus on one kind of cancer when there are so many out there. Why focus just on breast cancer, or prostate cancer, or skin cancer, or...well you get my point.
  4. Breast cancer 2004 (the most recent year numbers are available), * 186,772 women and 1,815 men were diagnosed with breast cancer*† * 40,954 women and 362 men died from breast cancer*† Prostate cancer U.S. In 2004 (the most recent year for which statistics are currently available): * 189,075 men were diagnosed with prostate cancer* * 29,002 men died from prostate cancer* It's pretty close on those numbers for new cases,....but thats besides the point. I dont think I've ever seen a "support prostate" ad, or drive. Let alone shirts, socks, kitchenade mixers, cooking pans, lighters, cars, xmas ornaments, you can stock your entire kitchen with breast cancer stuff....you name it they have it in pink giving money to breast cancer. Have seen breast cancer stuff at, sears, target, walmart, exxon stations....Thats a huge part of the money difference. No advertisement, for support.
  5. In the bizarro world of PC, organs have civil rights. That's why it's more important to cure cancers of the ovary, cervix and uterus than cancer of the prostate. <rolls eyes>
  6. I support prostate cancer getting as much funding as they can but the fact is men and women who have suffered through breast cancer or who have had family members suffer through breast cancer have actually gone out and done something about it. They've organized rallies, they started fundraisers, they've petitioned for more funding for research. They've made posters, shirts, signs, stickers, water bottles, etc. Those ALL increase profits ten-fold. Those people went out and actually did something to cause change and progress. Prostate cancer will never get proper funding until it's suffers and their families actually get out there and garner the support for themselves.
  7. I think it has something to do with the fact that breasts are (or are at least seen as) more marketable.
  8. The breast cancer foundation has been getting flack for taking away attention from other cancers but really it comes down to good marketing. They practically own the colour pink and almost everyone knows of a women who died of breast cancer. My mom died of colon cancer so I agree that money should be more evenly distributed. However, like I said, there's no conspiracy or anything here, they just discovered the right strategy that got people's interests. If anything, other causes should be studying them to find out how they do so well.
  9. It isn't about the facts. It's about the politics. This really gets women voters.
  10. Go get some corporate sponsors and do it! That's how breast cancer research became so well funded. A few sponsors and a great marketing strategist and in a couple years prostate cancer will be raking in the bucks like breast cancer. All it takes is a plan and a team of people diligently working to execute the plan.
  11. Prostate cancer should ABSOLUTELY have a month dedicated to awareness.. As far as why it hasn't happened. Men don't talk about these things, women do. It's the only thing I can think of..
  12. I agree with the ladies on here. The breast cancer people have developed a pretty excellent marketing campaign. However, I also think there are some other reasons. I don't think men consider themselves a group in and of themselves. Therefore, issues that only affect men often don't develop highly successful organizations. Women tend to see themselves as a group. Therefore when there is an issue which affects them, they band together to solve it. Also, men tend to be really stupid about there health. There is almost a feeling that men "deserve" to die from cancer because they refuse to see the doctor. My mother died of breast cancer last year. My father died of colon cancer this year. A couple years back I had polyps removed at age 22. In the back of my mind, I believe my dad would still be alive if he hadn't been such a tough guy.
  13. I don't see why this question is aimed at ladies!! Why are you not out there "running for life". Why don't men help themselves first before asking women for help. I have NEVER seen a MAN asking for donations for prostrate cancer, why is that? Basically you are criticizing us for something we don't do when you don't even do it yourself ... amazing!! lol
  14. It's not just about women where breast cancer is concerned. Did you know men can get it too? Richard Roundtree, the actor from the movie, Shaft, got breast cancer.
  15. You are wrong. The five year survival rate is 99% for prostate cancer (male only) and 89% for breast cancer (men and women). Men do not have a higher death rate. You need another source, because you aren't getting the right facts. Men die WITH prostate cancer, people die FROM breast cancer. Breast cancer gets the attention because women got together to work for it. If you men get together - I am sure we will support you. Don't expect us to do the work for you. But I joined the Army of Women to find not work for a cure but to find the cause of breast cancer.
  16. I will not help to find a cure for breast cancer that's for sure.
  17. Well, breast cancer is a bigger killer than prostate cancer. However research into prostate cancer is increasing which is great. There is also a Male Cancer Awareness Month in the UK (every June). This year there was a 5K run, promotions in Cosmopolitan and EveryMan magazines and donations from Debenhams and the Edinburgh Marathon.
