My husband had complete prostate removal surgery 5-05 and has the usual problems associated with that but has another side effect his Dr's. wont even discuss. His legs became very weak right after surgery and remain so, After asking other men (3) who have had the same surgery and them experiencing the same symptoms why wont the medical community discuss this? Any ideas? By the way....He had to use the VA Health Care System and his cancer came from service in Vietnam.

What do you think a guy should do who does #2 where he should do #1and vice versa soon after prostate surgery? I'm Just wondering, since I heard a nurse's assistant in one of my classes talking about it him coming in to where she worked. Apparently his surgeon has a history of making nicks. He went back to the hospital and he had no control over the constant fecal flow from his penis, which it can to through since it has thinnish consistency. It's supposedly really painful too. I thought it was interesting, thought provoking sort of. So what do you think?

Prostate cancer - after surgery? My husband had prostate cancer and they removed his prostate (he is 43 and it was removed 6 months ago) The good news is, he is cancer free!!! When they removed the prostate they had also removed some of the nerve endings outside of the prostate. This resulted in not having an erection. Now the Dr. said it is very common to experience this and it should come back. He is taking viagra since the surgery to 'stimulate' the nerve endings. But it hasn't helped at all. We will see his Dr. again in 3 weeks for his 6 month follow up. My question is: what else can we do, so we can have our sex life again? (the old fashion way - we are not into 'toys' ) Will he ever get it 'up' again? Of course I'm happy he is cancer free and I rather have him alive then dead. But I wanted to know what other options we have before we see the Dr. Since his Dr. didn't really go into any details yet

How long can a person expect to bleed after a laser prostate TURP? I recently had a Green Light laser PVP TURP. Other than the day after the surgery, I experienced no bleeding whatsoever. Then, 12 days after the event, I suddenly began voiding blood at the beginning of each urination session. This has been going on for 7 days, now. If I drink lots of water and lie down, it seems to improve; otherwise, it's always a bit of blood followed by regular urine. Can anyone tell me if this is a normal part of the healing process? Thanks.

This has been totally frustrating and it appears to be something I have to live with the rest of my life. I've seen a couple of urologist, therapists and even a sex therapist. Prostate surgery affected ejaculation. Would not having ejaculations bother you? At the time of the prostate surgery, I knew that this was going to be likely, but I miss having the feeling of orgasm with semen coming out of me. My question: Besides the issue of the non-elective surgery, how would you feel about not having ejaculations? I guess the questions can go both ways, men or women replying to this question. I'm still young, late 30's. To: s7lmb You sorta missed the point, but I agree with you about not talking about it. I could have thought of a better question. Thanks.

Dog limping due to enlarged prostate...even after surgery? Greetings... My wife and I adopted our new dog Ziggy last week. He was found as a stray and was rescued by his foster Mother from Animal Control. Ziggy is an awesome dog and is very well trained. We believe that he was probably abandoned by some useless human. Anyway, Ziggy was limping and the SPCA said he had a torn ACL and would require surgery. After 3 other opinions it was determined that the ACL was not the issue but he was limping because of an enlarged prostate due to not being neutered yet. Ziggy is 2 years old and is a Boxer/ American Bulldog mix and my vet said neutering would fix his leg issue. We had Ziggy neutered this past Tuesday and he seems to be quite a bit more energetic. He is going to the bathroom more regularly and is walking better...all of which were issues prior to the surgery. I am noticing, however, that Ziggy is still favoring his right leg. I see it mstly when he standing for long periods of time or when he first gets up from lying down. I was just wondering if anyone had similar issues with their dog. I guess maybe I am being overly worrisome since the surgey was only 3 days ago. Any useful input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Snickers...thanks...I am thinking that might be it. He does not appear to be in any pain and he let's me touch it so I am hoping he will be OK. He has been through so much already :(

Prostate Cancer Prognosis after radical prostectomy that left micro cells. When I am 80 dont want pain.? I had a aggressive cancer grow in my prostate. The prostate was removed in surgery, but four or five years later a doctor found a PSA level of 11. He convinced me to go on Lupron (sp?) which is a hormone to get rid of all testosterone in body and cut off food supply to any microscopic cancer cells in my body. Several tests have shown no sign of cancer cells before or after the every-three month injections began and PSA went down from 11 to 3. Now, the doc sort of casually mentioned that score is good, but the hormone treatment only works for 10 years. After leaving the office, I thought, this guy just gave me eight years to live. Now that is not like being told you have a month to live like in the movies, but it is not too long. What happens then? Does prostate cancer start growing all over my body? In the bones? Will it require chemo and radiation and will I have extreme pain from this cancer if it gets in the bones? That is what I am wondering and wondering how to end it all
Employer canceled my ins after I quit and requested time for surgery? I quit my employer last year on June 28 2007 and resigned. I gave them 30 days notice to Aug 3, 2007. July 2, 2007 I requested 2 sick days for prostate surgery on July 16. I had 10 acrued sick days. July 12, I was terminated early and told I could leave because of my notice and that I would be paid to Aug 3, 2007, full benefits. SVP of HR canceled my ins on July 12 as well when I was terminated, so that it would hurt me and I would have to pay for the prostate surgery procedure out of my pocket. I was paid on the regular payroll on July 15 and Aug 1 and the employer, bank, withheld the money for health ins. that they canceled on July 12. I was a bank pres there and when anyone else quit, they had ins to the end of the month, of the month that they resigned. I feel that they SVP of HR really tried to screw me big time. And she had just survived brest cancer. What legal recourse do I have now. I have filed suit.

Any suggestions re. problems with scar tissue build up after a TURP operation for prostate enlargement? My father wh is 84 and in good general health, had a TURP and then had to have further surgery to correct a build up of scar tissue. He was told this is very rare and he was just unlucky. Really rude receptionist!? I have a "man" problem after having prostate surgery in a urology clinic (I have insurance). The urology surgeon/doctor kinda botched it up so naturally I didn't wanna go back there. I went to my GP doctor in another facility (It's all kaiser, different locations) and I explained I didn't feel comfortable going back to that urologist since he screwed me up the first time. So she referred me to a diff urology clinic. I call them up saying I was referred by my doctor and like to make an appt. She looked up my number and said I had to go back to the original urologist. So I told my GP doc what happened and I gave her the reasons why I didn't feel comfortable with going back to original. She was really nice, understood, and said I'll put in another referral. So I just called the urology place again. Woman answers. I say was referred, like to make appt. She looks up my number, pauses and says, sounding a bit annoyed, and like I'm doing this God-awful thing, with no business calling her: "Um why is it that after I told you the first time you needed to go to the original doctor, you keep calling back our facility?" Etc etc. Oh my god..maybe bc I explained the situation to my GP doctor, she understood and, uh, REFERRED ME TO YOU. She totally insulted me and made me feel like I was doing something wrong by her tone etc.
What exactly is right bundle branch blockage? and is it dangerous? My husband was told he had RBBB after an EKG. He's supposed to have prostate surgery, and they won't do it until the Cardiologist clears him. The Cardiologist is having him do a stress test. My husband also has sleep apnea. The doctor mentioned that he has seen RBBB in many sleep apnea patients. Will this eventually need surgery? or will he be able to live with it, without it causing any problems?
My Dad found out today he has prostate cancer!!? My Dad is only 54 years old! He found out this morning that his biopsy came back positive. Right now he is facing removal of the prostate since he is so young. What does this mean for my Dad? He's having a CT scan to makes sure is hasn't spread. If it hasn't spread and they remove it does that mean the cancer will most likely be gone? What sort of problems will he have after the surgery? Help, I'm so lost and sad right now. My Dad is my world and I can't imagine anything being wrong with him! I have 2 son's that he has to be around to watch grow up!
Are there newer treatments for prostate & bladder cancer for older people.? My grandfather has prostate cancer that has spread to the lung and eventually the bladder. He was going through chemotherapy and radiation successfully until they discovered the bladder cancer. His doctor said if he was younger that he would try surgery but that isn't an option because of his age. I was curious about robotic surgery and found this article from 5 years ago: http://www.fightprostatecancer.org/site/News2?page=NewsArticle&id=5651 The guy in the article was 86 years old and weak with a heart that was pumping at only 5% the strength of a healthy heart. I am curious if there is anything even better after 5 years that can be used for prostate and bladder surgery.
